Some churches don't want a pastor.
They want a miracle worker.
They expect one person to...
Preach every Sunday.
Visit every hospital.
Answer every phone call.
Lead every meeting.
Fix every conflict.
Run the social media.
Recruit volunteers.
Build the budget.
Grow attendance.
Raise money.
Counsel marriages.
Bury the dead.
Marry the living.
And somehow...
Still hear clearly from God.
Then we wonder why pastors are burning out.
Friend...
That's not ministry.
That's impossible.
The Church Created a Job God Never Did
Here's the uncomfortable truth.
Many pastors aren't quitting because ministry is hard.
They're quitting because they're carrying a job description God never gave them.
We've built churches around personalities instead of systems.
We've built ministries that depend on one exhausted human being instead of an equipped body of believers.
Then when that pastor gets tired...
We call it a leadership problem.
No.
It's a systems problem.
Burnout Isn't the Problem
Burnout is the symptom.
The real problem is capacity.
Every pastor has twenty-four hours.
The difference isn't who's more spiritual.
It's who has better systems.
I've met pastors leading churches of 50 who are exhausted.
I've also met pastors leading churches of 500 who have margin.
The difference wasn't talent.
It wasn't gifting.
It wasn't money.
It was structure.
Moses Learned This the Hard Way
One of my favorite leadership stories is found in Exodus 18.
Moses was trying to solve everyone's problems.
Morning until evening.
Every complaint.
Every dispute.
Every decision.
Then Jethro looked at him and basically said...
"This isn't good."
Not because Moses wasn't gifted.
Because Moses wasn't scalable.
Jethro didn't tell Moses to pray harder.
He told him to build a team.
Read that again.
The answer wasn't more effort.
The answer was better leadership.
Even the Apostles Delegated
Acts 6 tells the same story.
The apostles were overwhelmed.
Needs were growing.
People were frustrated.
The solution?
They appointed others to lead.
Why?
"So we can give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the Word."
That's leadership.
Not doing everything.
Making sure everything gets done.
There's a difference.
Stop Asking "How?"
Here's one of the biggest shifts every pastor needs to make.
Stop asking...
"How do I do this?"
Start asking...
"Who can help me do this?"
That's the question healthy churches ask.
Need better guest follow-up?
Who owns it?
Need stronger communications?
Who leads it?
Need volunteers?
Who develops them?
Every time the answer is...
"Pastor does it."
You've found your bottleneck.
Your Church Doesn't Need a Better Pastor
It needs better systems.
I know that's controversial.
But it's true.
Because if your church only works when the pastor is working...
You don't have a healthy church.
You have an overworked pastor.
Healthy churches aren't built on heroic effort.
They're built on repeatable systems.

The most expensive thing in your church isn't your building.
It isn't your payroll.
It isn't your technology.
It's keeping your pastor buried under work someone else should be doing.
Every week that happens...
Vision slows.
People fall through the cracks.
Leaders burn out.
Growth stalls.
Not because God stopped moving.
Because the systems stopped supporting the mission.
Final Thought
Pastor...
God didn't call you to be everything.
He called you to lead.
There's a difference.
The church is called the Body of Christ for a reason.
Every part has a role.
Every gift has a purpose.
Every believer has something to contribute.
The moment one person tries to become the entire body...
The whole church suffers.
You don't need to work harder.
You need a better way to lead.
And that starts with building systems that free you to focus on what only God called you to do.
As Paul reminds us:
"Everything should be done in a fitting and orderly way." — 1 Corinthians 14:40
Order isn't the enemy of the Spirit.
It's what creates room for ministry to flourish.
